Family Portrait
The Choker
“This is a picture of my brother and me. He is 13 years older than I am and he would constantly pick on me growing up. Apparently he couldn’t stop himself during the family photo session.”

Timer Troubles
“This family portrait was taken in 1970. My Dad had a new slide camera with a timer. I’m the one in the ‘fashionable’ white polyester pantsuit. I have no idea what my mother was doing, but obviously, no one was ready for the shot.”

The Compromise
“1979. The first time I had to get my picture taken at JC Penney’s with my baby brother, who had stolen my spotlight a few months before. I threw a tantrum, but then finally agreed to be in the picture. I still refused to smile.”

Crossed Up
“From our family portrait session in 1991. Olan Mills gave us this photo at no additional charge. Guess who probably got a spanking later that evening.”

Cowboy Up
“I actually like these photos, which I believe are the only posed photos we ever had shot as a family. Sure, future generations will look at us and think WTF? But those were the times, man, and my Dad loved his cowboy hat.”

Shell Shock
“This was in October, 1999. I thought it would be cute. My husband about killed me. I hired a professional photographer. We were in costume for over an hour. Husband drank beer to get through it. I can’t believe now that I did this. Also my daughter had just given herself a nice bang trim.”

One Big Happy
“This is a photo of me, my cat and my best friends from high school. Looking back on it now I think it makes us look like we’re all married to each other. Epic!”

The Spirit Of ’93
“My sister hired a photographer to take our family picture all dressed up in our red, white and blue in 1993. Our Dad, pictured in the white shoes, was very patriotic and my sisters and I are as well. It all made sense at the time but now we can laugh and call this picture one of our most awkward family photos! Thank you to my sister for always thinking up such wonderful memories for our family!!”

The Patriot
“This is my family’s one and only professionally taken portrait. I remember being so angry my mom made me wear the uniform from my Fife and Drum Marching Band (for which I also had no love). The photo sessions were taken at my grammar school so the entire school was able to partake in my misery. I am smiling though. Somehow.”

The Goose
“These are my husband and his siblings. His sister in pink just goosed my husband. The look on his face is hilarious. His sister on the other end…I’m not sure why she has that look. LOL.”
