This is what we like to call a “choose your own adventure” family photo.

Oh my!!!!! I love this! “Choose your own adventure” I am dying!!!!!
Maybe this is an unusual opinion, but I like this more than the typical studio photographs out there!! I think the “traditional” everyone-staring-into-the-camera-and-sitting-like-statue shots are more awkward for me to look at than this. This one looks way more natural and comfortable to look at. At least to me!!
OMG I had to look this one up, thank goodness you explain them for us….I get The Onion part…so many layers to a family…enjoying my page a day calender.
what? i don’t get the title or caption! i agree it is a crazy looking photo and definately awkward.
Is that Bonnie Franklin?
Julie is there, in the front on the right.
Man in front says, “Hey! Where did these kids come from?”
i think this is the photographers way of being “unique”
As a former professional photographer, I have declared that at least ONE person will claim that EVERY PHOTO EVER TAKEN HAS BEEN PHOTOSHOPPED. With beautiful lighting and composition, of course. I also am from the moon and have twelve kitten-children and am the president of Zimbabwe.
Love the dad in the background, comforting the baby who didn’t make the cut to sit with Grandpa. “It’s okay, Mariah. In this family, we all get our fifteen minutes, then we have to move on.”
I thought it was the Howard Dean family photo.
This is hilarious and such a fun picture. Im going with Adoption here, cuz nothing else works in my head…
Internal dialogue: ‘Keep it together, Ron… Don’t. Lose. Your. Cool.’
I love how Mom is enjoying the experience instead of stressing out, as she waits for each couple gets its’ kid(s) settled down before the “official” shot. The caption is hilarious, too.
2/11 looking at the camera ain’t so bad.
None of these people are related.
Thank you Nathan for submitting this photo and thank you to who ever came up with the caption. I don’t know why, but it made me laugh until tears were rolling down my face. Great family, great photo.
i dont get it whats so great bout the caption
what an awesome photo caption
!!! Why does this image having me laughing harder than anything else on this site. This is so strangely awkwardly perfect. I can’t see; I’m weeping with laughter.
Couple 3 chjldren with mate= 3 grandkids
it looks like no one in the picture had a clue their picture was being taken.
It’s like they were told to all look different directions and 2 of them picked the same spot!
Beautiful family, I bet they either foster or adopt kids. I think it is a lot better pic than some that you see where everyone is stiff and miserable looking. This was probably a goof shot, everyone moved just as the photographer was snaping the picture; I’m glad that the family decided to keep it. If it was my family, I would have this one hanging front and center.
This picture is just so confusing to look at for my brain!
Ahahahahahaha! Best caption EVAR
“Okay guys, we want a nice family portrait, but we don’t want to look posey…ready? Go!”
Love the photo! Love the caption! Love this family! I would TOTALLY buy this portrait, if this were my own family! It’s wonderful!
I’ve been saying it for a while, but never before has my sentiment been more true – the photo captions ROCK!! This is by FAR the absolute best picture caption yet!!!
I think what happened is the photog finally just gave up trying to get the toddlers to look at the camera, said “screw it” and told everyone to gander hither-thither-and-yon. Friggin’ hysterical!
Strike a pose?
Well it is a recession… I guess sharing one giant photo would be cheaper..
I just love that Grandpa is hip enough to sit on a chair backwards.
My official wallpaper now.
“Where is freakin Waldo?”
this is the funniest one in a long time. i am struck with awe.
I spent some time studying this image and it is really quite beautiful and an accomplished photo. each individual is perfectly lit.
I am an image editor and I seriously doubt this was assembled from different photos
why is this called the “onion?”
like an onion.
probably because all the layers you would have to peel back to reach anything close to a nuclear family unit.
“I swear we did not do this on purpose!” haha
HIL-AR-I-OUS. I lovie!
“Choose your own adventure”. LOL
what in the world is even going on in this picture??? i am stumped.
okay, this is what i get for looking at the pic and reading from the bottom up. i get it now. well, as much as there is to get…
I smell something, who did it?
It’s like a promo poster for a new season of Lost.
Or a Royal Tennenbaum’s sequel.
Royal Tennenbaum for sure! Good call!
Nothing like a collection of unrelated individuals looking in different directions to wake you up. I wonder how long they had to stay like that while the assistant stood on a ladder saying hey! hey! to the baby.
best photo and caption in a long time. those who claim this is photoshopped need to get a life. is that your answer to everything – photoshop? it doesn’t even make sense for this pic, nothing was made to look perfect, funny or incredible. it just turned out funny… naturally.
vangie’s reply was photoshopped
I think your personality was photoshopped
Photoshop IS the answer to everything. Photoshop changed my life, dunno about you…
Also, fixed my photos.
