LOL… Screw the comments. This girl is rockin’ that outfit. GOOD FOR YOU!
Umm… except it’s me… and I’m a man. I was 6 at the time!
Brilliant shoot, for sure back to the future
u want me baby
I’m beginning to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!
win.
I had this ensemble for a dance recital too, I was also the only boy in my dance dance class! I danced from 1988-1992 so it was sometime between then, I am so glad to see another guy had to suffer through that awful outfit!
Time: 1989-90
Costumes supplied by: Curtain Call
Pics:
bunch of 6-year-old girls wearing form-fitting (sleeveless top, capris) “pop rockstar” outfits similar to the one in question. Differences: hot pink, not yellow. Rainbows are not geometric in pattern.
It was just another plain casual outfit before the sequins but after it became FABULOUS!!!!
Omg! I had that dance outfit as a kid! Glad those photos are gone now!
OMG! I had a shirt and shorts made out of that EXACT SAME FABRIC sometime around 1990. I had hoped never to see it again. But it lives on…!!
This picture is of me. My friend Meredith posted this! ha ha ha….
Story: When I was in kindergarten, my mom was a dance teacher. My dad worked heavy industrial construction, so he was out of town during the week. My mom didn’t have enough money to pay a babysitter, so she made me take dance lessons instead. I thought I was such a bad-ass being the only boy in a group of 45 girls taking dance lessons. 6 year old PIMP!!!! Anyway, my mom found this picture a few months ago and mailed it to me
rock on!
I must ask… r u the Lord of the Dance?? do u still have a mullet?? WHAT KIND OF SHOES WHERE U WEARING?!?!?!? geez… so many questions in my head…
Thank-you for the backstory, Austin. One question, though. Are you as cool now, as you were, when you were six?
No. I am no longer nearly as cool as that 6 year old kid. There’s no way I can even match this. EVER.
Just asked my mom, apparently I was wearing “jazz dancing shoes.” They were black.
Am I Lord of the Dance? Unfortunately, I only danced for 2 years. So my destiny was never fully realized. I do swing dance a lot now though…
I no longer have a mullet. Another picture I may post is from Junior High. I had a HUGE helmet looking bowl cut with a part down the middle.
We really seriously need to know what you look like now :-p I’ll go search Facebook. I’m not scared
I’m guessing this is from around 1990-1993 judging by the clothing.
Regulation outfit: check.
Regulation mullet length: check.
Regulation Christmas tinsel sewn onto said outfit: check.
Has to be a dance costume. Nothin’ wrong with it at all! I love it. Look at the gaudy attire the girls wear for dance shows and competitions (not to mention beauty shows, etc)- now THAT stuff is hideous.
Scary how much this reminds me of my younger brother ca. 1991. Same hair, same sunglasses, slightly less ostentatious clothing…but close. Ah, the memories!
When you wake up in the morning and the light is hurt your head
The first thing you do when you get up out of bed
Is hit that streets a-runnin’ and try to beat the masses
And go get yourself some cheap sunglasses
Winning!
DUUUH!
Nice Photos – 80′s style
Did anyone notice that the shorts were once pants!!!! LOL
This needs to win some sort of award. CLASSIC!
$10 says the shoes have sparkles.
I think that’s the easiest ten bucks you made!
William H. Macy…..can be fooled again apparently.
Little Mr. Sunshine — 80′s style!
Vogue!
The caption is PERFECT!!! HAHAHA
Everybody’s workin’ for the weekend
Everybody wants a new romance
Everybody’s goin’ off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, Oh
Could the background be any more inappropriate?! Looks like . . . just yuck.
Simon Cowell as a child. He tried so hard to make it as an entertainer, but, alas, he just couldn’t make the cut.
I am betting he has roller skates on those feet!
Ha ha it would just be perfect!
Roller skates were my first thought! I KNOW I saw that outfit working at Skate World as a teen! lol
When the photographer laughingly said “nice outfit”, young Rick Vaughn felt the rush of pure tiger blood mixing with his Adonis DNA for the first time resulting in a serious staredown of attitude and the spawning of a superior ego.
Ha ha ha ha *wipes tear from eye”
OMG, I think I just peed myself. I hope you write for a living!
Not awkward at all. He went on to make millions as Lord of the Dance.
Best.comment.ever
I think we may be dealing with Way Cool Junior himself.
Dance Recital TONITE!! ….is that green Christmas tree garland lining his jazzercise outfit?! He’s the cat’s Meow! MEEE-OWCH!!!
What a great photo of a great kid. Gender doesn’t matter here. Fabulous knows no gender!
Agreed
Is that a boy or a girl? I just can’t tell!!! Either way, that’s one unfortunate dance outfit.
photographer with British accent: “Give me FIERCE!!! Give me ‘Take no prisoners!!’. Give me UTTER DISDAIN!!!!!”
UTTER DISDAIN ftw!!!!!!!!!!
Austin Powers lives!
“Yes!Yes! NOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Guy 1
Look into this kid’s eyes. He has the confidence to pull off this outfit, do you?
Guy 2
Why would I want to?!
is that Christmas tinsel sewn down the front of his/her costume?
Mom really should have spent a little more time hemming the sleeves and shorts.
It’s as though the Partridge Family bus exploded and he couldn’t get out of the way.
Perfect!
Best observation!
You’ll need a way cooler outfit if you want to sport THAT attitude
This photo is awesome! Wait…is this a boy? Still awesome!
Sweatbands – Awesome. Green sequins – Awesome. Cheap orange sunglasses – Awesome.
Having the tipped up shades make your ears stand out like bus doors – AWKWARD!
Boy or Girl? There’s no way to tell.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Either way, someone is never going to live this one down.
i hesitated to ask the same question. glad i’m not the only one unable to tell…
I think she’s a girl..
I am hoping it is a girl — if not, there is confusion abounding!!
I was pretty sure it was a boy
She’s a boy…
this got one of those surprise out loud laughs. i love it lololol
So many thoughts spring to mind. But the one that keeps pushing itself to the front is “Why??”
Meredith, you are THE Disco Diva!
That’s clearly a boy – just because Meredith posted it doesn’t mean it’s her …
Fame!
I’m gonna live forever
I’m gonna learn how to fly….high!
*insert jazz hands*
His outfit looks like the stained glass window at my church!
Love the stained glass motif – Church Lady meets Elton John.
Nail on the head observation Linda – so funny so 90′s
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA holy crap, that actually left me with a tear in both eyes. xD good one
Does holding my glasses like this hide my mullet?
I just shot coffee out of my nose!
bwuahahahahah
Ohh, I am so excited to check back tomorrow — while the pictures (especially Mr. ‘Tude here) are priceless — it’s the comments that ice the cake
