Christmas

The Fight Before Christmas

“Our annual family pictures used to be very stressful events, but 1998 took the cake. In this picture, I had just taken a Santa doll from my sister. She retaliated by slapping me and taking the doll back. I was clutching my face and my dad flipped her over his shoulder just as the automatic timer went off. All my mom could do was stand by helplessly.”

Reindeer Games

“I had this same type of photo taken of all three of my kids but when I pulled out the reindeer antlers for my last child, the photographer that I had used for 15 years said ‘Oh please, No. I’m going to have to call Social Services.'”

Puberty Ruined Christmas: A Photo Essay

“My parents make my sister and me take a picture at the top of the stairs every Christmas morning, and these two were taken a few years apart.  The first picture is one of the last happy Christmas morning photos we have, which my parents titled “A Very Merry Pre-Pubescent Christmas To You.” The second photo shows what happened to our happy Christmases after we became teenagers. They claim puberty ruined Christmas.”

Direct Hit

“This family portrait was taken during a beach photo session. Yes, that is a frisbee flying towards my husband’s face. Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured in the process, and we DID end up using this picture on our Christmas card that year. It just pretty much sums up our family in a way no words can.”

Dog Days

“From a series of Christmas photos of my family and me, taken by my oldest daughter’s boyfriend. We were all wearing our San Francisco Giants World Series holiday shirts. As most family photoshoots go during the holidays, my daughter was in a highly anxious mode and later she worked out her frustrations in Photoshop. That’s the face of one of our dogs. She posted it on Facebook wishing everyone ‘Happy Holidays from the Rodriguez Family!'”

Two Sides of Dad

“This is the photo my Grandmother sent out as her X-mas card in the early 70s. She didn’t like my Dad’s not-smiling face so she cut out one from a different picture, pasted it in place and sent it to the printers. Note the glue on my Dad’s face where Grandma had attempted to affix the smiling face before it shifted during printing. Still one of the funniest things ever sent to more than 200 friends and family.”
