I always hated this part of Christmas — the presents sitting opened under the tree — what’s the point? So much work just waiting as presents need to be sorted and put away, the decorations brought back to the basement, vacuuming up all that tinsel and tree needles….I’m getting holiday blues just thinking about it!

  2. Blucat says:

this one made me laugh out loud, classic kid attitude

  3. CarrieM says:

No more figgy pudding for you, little man.

  4. Evan says:

God took away the tree of knowledge, hid the tree of life, but left the tree of disappointment for this poor kid here.

  5. Maya B says:

“Why does Santa always bring me ‘husky’ clothes?”

  6. emm says:

mom insisted that billy wear the giants shirt that grandma sent. (unfortunatetly, grandma forgot that billy is no longer a size 4T…)

  7. teo says:

    Must be a tea drinker.

  8. Mtn says:

My grandparents always display the opened presents underneath the tree for a couple of days after Christmas. I’ve always thought that it’s the weirdest thing…

    • Blucat says:

we always did that cause we had a lot of family coming around. they wanted to see what we got and would quit playing with within the next two weeks.

    • Juls says:

We did that too. I have modified it to keeping everything out for Christmas Day but next morning it all gets put away.

  9. Crystal says:

He looks like he’s ingested some of those tree icicles.

  10. hs says:

he’s just read Marney’s letter of what’s expected of him for the New Year’s Eve party.

  11. ack says:

I remember when Santa brought Mr Coffee…I was really excited and told all my friends. Even though I was just a kid and didn’t drink coffee.

  12. pittipat says:

What are my mom’s curtains doing in that house?

  13. Tim says:

Join us for the Hallmark Hall of Fame Holiday classic: “Marnie’s First Christmas”.

  14. MarcsNymph says:

The look on his face doesn’t say “not happy” so much as it says, “You gotta fall asleep sometime, and when you do….”

  15. Lisa B says:

When all he really wanted was a compound bow…

  16. Moffat says:

This looks like Christmas 1974. Tinsel and Garland on tree, plus the “portable” tv. (Probably black & white.) I used to have a wicker chair just like one in background. Isn’t this a typical American Christmas? So stressful — you’re good all year then what a big letdown. Then your parents yell at you for not appreciating what “Santa” brought you. I bet lots of us have similar pictures.

    • mjdg says:

Are we related? You perfectly described my Christmas experiences! I totally feel this kid! While its a funny pic, it also gave me a sick feeling in my stomach as it reminded me of my Christmas days as a kid!.

    • Amanda says:

That’s so true. I have a picture of me laying on the floor right after opening presents – just holding up a toe – it was all the energy my four year old body could muster. I gave my parents the big toe.

  17. Wombatgirl says:

Not what little Sally was expecting when she asked Santa for a brother for Christmas

  18. Tocsnai says:

That old, somewhat smushed-up Mr. Coffee box is just an example of this family’s casual attitude toward wrapping presents.

Exhibit B: the shrink-wrapped television to the left.

  19. Jan says:

    Damn, humans are funny creatures.

  20. Maria says:

I’m pretty sure we had the TV on the left and I have no doubt that we had that wicker chair. My mother just threw it out after 40 years. I swear.

  21. Tom says:

    Grrrrrr!!!!!

  22. Brennan says:

Now maybe by next Christmas you’ll learn not to wear shoes in the house.

  23. Cincoflex says:

Man, he/she is just radiating the joy of the season.

  24. SammyD says:

He looks like he could really use a Mr. Coffee! Or maybe he was just told Santa Claus is not real?

  25. Nigel says:

“The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup!”

  26. sls says:

I don’t the kid needs the TV either.

  27. neverfirst says:

Nothing else to do here but wait patiently for Easter.

  28. Tim says:

No pony again for little Billy.

  29. laurie says:

All he really wanted was an official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time….

  30. Shelley says:

I don’t see any toys?? No wonder he was bummed. Just a bunch of clothes boxes. :( …TV for him?

  31. Lamech says:

    Favorite NFL team or species?

  32. GoFigure says:

Instead of the Mr. Coffee, he really wanted Mr. Donut.

  33. ajAX1 says:

Little Johnny still had problems straitening out his limbs after spending all night in that box. Until he walked, Mom clearly had mixed feelings about her new gift!

  34. What in the World? says:

    I’m speechless.

  35. 100 Flowers says:

I remember my first Mr. Coffee…

I am pretty sure I still have that tv!!!

  38. Steve says:

Man, all I wanted was a Pong.

  39. WTF? says:

Spoiled little pudding. I guess that he didn’t get that Hickory Farms smoked meats/ jellies/ chocolate box set that he REALLY wanted.

  40. Nancy says:

Why is there plastic wrap around the tv!?

  41. jennie says:

Oh look honey, santa left us a disgruntled elf under the tree this year !!!!!!!

The old tradition of the Christmas Goblin under the tree.
