“My Mom booked this photo shoot. I was 12 and my sister was 15. We have no idea why the photographer thought laying in a pile on my Dad would make a good photo. And how did Mom get out of it? She must have known then how ridiculous it would look. Moms know everything.”

Rainbow Cat
“Taken on an Indiana summer evening. This is the result of combining my young daughter, popsicles, sidewalk chalk, and our cat.”

Portrait Of Despair
“My brother’s family. Only Mom could keep it together. The kids are grown now but I can still see the same personalities in them today! I love to look back at it when I need a laugh. Even the kids friends love it and tease them relentlessly! Thanks heavens they don’t have a copy of my family portrait. LOL.”
Cavity Squad
“My childhood best friend’s family was very crafty and creative. We were always playing dress up. The dental-themed Halloween project was a major nightly endeavor that spanned weeks and involved many layers of paper mâché and tons of straws. We were a big hit in our neighborhood! I’m the nerd wearing a floss box.”

Anarchy
“Can’t explain anything about this picture of my grandfather with my little brothers as I was away at college. Apparently everything went straight to hell once I left home–maybe wearing clothes became optional. My mother must have taken this…I have no idea what she was thinking.”

Dialed In
“I was a homeschooled girl back in 1997. My Mom took me to get my senior pictures taken and this is what they did to me!”

The Protection Plan
“I was at my desk (I work for a cell phone company) and this woman LITERALLY threw a condom at me and says to “wrap it before you tap it” while I’m working with my boyfriend’s grandma to get her into a phone.”

Cake Retaliation
“This is how my loving husband took control of the cake-smashing situation on our wedding day! Apparently he didn’t enjoy me ‘caking’ him without warning, and this is how he chose to get me back One of my favorite parts of this picture are the cake crumbs flying through the air! Yes, even after this, we’re still happily married!”

Martini Art
“Pre-K gems from art class. I bartended a few nights a week, and I was also drawing murals on glass during the day. My son brought this home from school.”

Wanted Alive
“Our uncle was sick, and this is the get-well card my eight-year-old daughter thoughtfully created for him as he went to the hospital. Inspired by a children’s book of cowboy craft ideas, she made this ‘Wanted’ poster more ‘authentic’ by crinkling it and ripping off the edges. We kept this one, and she created another one that was a little more toned down.”
