Terrible Twos

“Some family members decided it’d be great to get a bunch of kids together for a group portrait for the grandparents. The entire idea ticked off my barely two-year-old to no end, and for whatever idiotic reason we thought we could cheer her up by taking some portraits of just her with an oversized “two”–she’s always been a little model for the camera. She actually started with a smile but as soon as the photographer went to snap the picture she just a meltdown. The photographer immediately went to erase the digital image but I yelled “NO, I WANT THAT ONE!” The result was what I’ve always coined “pretty much the ultimate portrayal of a two year old.” You have to love the gleam of the tear coming down the face.

My daughter is 9 years old now and I still have an 8×10 of it displayed in the house. She thinks it’s the greatest picture in the world.”

Teed Off

“My daughter wouldn’t put her cell phone away on the golf course. Finally the golf club got the better of me and this photo was the result.”

Wedding Crasher

“After our wedding ceremony our photographer and wedding party went around to take pictures and while we were at this park along the river. She thought it’d be neat for my new husband to dip me backwards and kiss me while holding my leg up. Well, my nerves must not have been settled since our recent exchange of vows because I accidentally leaned back after giving him my leg, but before he was ready to hold me. I actually forgot all about this even happening until I saw our photographers photos. There’s actually a 3 picture series of me falling, but this one is my favorite because of everyone’s faces. I also love how my hand is desperately seeking help, and the fact that my husband is smiling about it.”

Fun With Frames

“This is a picture of my sister (on the far right) with her fiance and her new in-laws. She has not taken a family photo in over twelve years and then she poses for this.”

Surprise Fart

“My Dad captured this lovely number after a little photo shoot with my big sister. He farted and snapped the camera at the same time and happened to capture this reaction from me, a super sassy three year old.”

Buggin’ Out

“This is me at my grandparents’ lake house.  I used to get a real kick out of insects landing on me.  I had a budding career as an entomologist at that time… a hair stylist, not so much.”

The Price Of Cooperation

“This is a photo of my family. It was quite awkward. My 4 year old brother refused to wear a shirt. My grandmother has a 3×5 foot tapestry of this hanging in her house.”

Gold Digger

“This was at a family reunion about 10 years ago. My mother and I were posing for a picture on my ATV. This was back before everyone had digital cameras so we didn’t realize my relative in the background ‘digging for gold’ until we had the film developed. This picture still makes me laugh to this day. He must have his pinky finger all the way in there…I do give him an A for Effort!

The saying ‘You can pick your friends, but you can’t ‘pick’ your relatives’ rings true.”

Deep In Character

“This past fall, I jokingly pretended I was upset my cousin didn’t give me a part in his wedding. So, out of pity, he assigned me as ‘chauffeur’ and pretended as if it was an important role. I decided to take it more seriously than he had ever dreamed of and not only drove them to their photo shoot, but stuck around…”

Rock N Roll All Night

“This is my sisters family. They really are rockstars and I’m sure they would be honored to join the AFP hall of fame. They were Kiss for Halloween and decided to get a quick family portrait while still in makeup. This picture replaced the Sears studio portrait this year.”
