1998: A Clown Odyssey

“I am in this photo on the right-hand side, dressed as the ‘sad’ clown. My dad (in the middle) used to do clown shows for kids’ birthday parties so he had this ‘wonderful’ idea to dress us all as clowns and take a family photo. The doll on my step-mom’s lap is to represent my unborn brother who was still ‘in the oven’ at the time.

The part I remember most about this was walking around all day dressed as a clown. We went to several different photo places before finally getting the pics done, if I remember correctly, but I don’t recall why. I just remember going to different places that day and everyone was staring at us!”

Harnessing His Power

“In 1991, I was diagnosed with epilepsy. My Father, at the time, was a photographer whose studio was in our home. After a long day of tests and hospital visits, he decided to take this photo of me in my epilepsy test equipment, which is worn over a few days… I still don’t know why he took it, but what you see here is a shirtless, awesome looking ten-year-old boy with acid-washed jeans and perfectly feathered hair.”

Broken Wings

“This photo is so 90s, I can’t look directly at it without getting eyestrain. I am 13-14 here, so this is about 1992. The carefully-constructed bird’s wing bangs, the big earrings, the dress-over-a-shirt combo… and this was before I knew how to tame my eyebrows, so there’s that, too. The only thing I can be grateful for is that I was not allowed to wear makeup yet. I can only imagine how that would have turned out.

I did not date at all in high school.”

Welcome To The Gun Show

“This pic was taken of myself, my two little brothers, and our father in the early 90’s. Apparently, we felt the need to show off our lack of muscles!”

Permfection

“This is me.  What in the world my mom was thinking when she did this to me, I cannot say.  Between the homespun clothes and the perm gone wrong, I never had a chance.”

Swap Meet

“Found this in my family’s memory box from around 1996. We were face swapping before it was cool.”
