Family Portrait

Puppet Master

“My daughter and I years ago. I had a beaver mullet and she looks like my ventriloquist dummy.”

Phoning It In

“This is a photo of my whole family. My uncle was away on a hunting trip, so my aunt gave the photographer a picture of him so he could just ‘blend him in’ to the background. Clearly this man was a professional!”

Ten Pack

“This is a photo of my great-grandma and all of her great-grand children. Sears must have been having a special or something because I (front row, pink dress) remember waiting in line for a very long time before it came for our turn to have our picture taken. This explains all the children’s bored/upset faces. It was miserable at the time, but now it’s a funny and iconic family photo.”

Pull My Finger

“What should have been such a simple thing. ‘Let’s take a picture,’ turned into this. Apparently, taking a picture with Mom and Dad was just too much to ask. Thankfully, we moved on from this awkward moment.”

The Mousse Is Loose

“This is our dad and us three brothers in the summer of 1989. ROCK ON big hair 80’s!!!!”

To Each Their Own

“It was 2002. We had taken in a young man who needed a place to live. Our own children were working hard to maintain their own individuality in a culture which prided itself on ‘sameness.’  So, we took the opportunity to have a family photo taken.”

No Way, No How

“I wanted to go to my friend’s house instead of taking pictures. My mom said no and I wanted everyone to know I was mad.”

A Common Thread

“Not sure what we were thinking but it seemed to be a good idea at the time. It’s become a running family laugh…and a threat from my wife every time she goes to the fabric store.”
