Behind The Awkwardness

Grill On Grill - Behind The Awkwardness

Grill On Grill

“While we were visiting our grandparents in south Texas, we made a trip across the border where my little brother picked up a sweet switchblade comb.  As an added bonus, you can see my grandpa’s brother, Fritz, fixing us some lunch with his grill set on top of another grill.”

“We were standing waiting for the pictures to be taking – all of us doing whatever. My husband was taking the pictures and he was testing the shot.  Just really funny.  Could not have posed this one if we tried.”

Spawn - Behind The Awkwardness

Spawn

“My son wanted to wear his Spawn Halloween costume for picture day at school. Of course, we said no. Stubborn child that he was, he hid the costume in his back pack and wore it anyway! We had no idea until the pictures arrived, I was so angry! I intended to send them back and do retakes but my mother in law begged me to buy them. She said I would love them someday, and she was so right!”

Split Decision - Behind The Awkwardness

Split Decision

“We went for a portrait session and didn’t want to take the same old boring family photo.  So dad came up with having our daughter do a handstand.  It wasn’t until we got the picture back that we realized it looked like…well, let’s just say her brother’s head placement was unfortunate.”

The Bird - Babies

The Bird

‘I had quite the attitude right out of the womb. I guess there really is a reason my mom was always telling my dad “Don’t do that in front of the children!”… guess she didn’t expect it to sink in so early.”

Catch Me If You Can - Behind The Awkwardness

Catch Me If You Can

“When I got married back in ’95, I invited some ladies from work. Apparently, catching the bouquet meant a lot to them.”

Glory - Behind The Awkwardness

Glory

“The year was 1976– the bicentennial of our country. Our Father wanted to celebrate. So he had my sister and I dress up as if we were Civil War soldiers. We proudly (yet embarrassingly) marched around the block where we lived. But that wasn’t enough.. oh no.. my father had us march around Ben Franklin (the store) and other shops in the plaza like TG&Y and Publix. Looking back 38 years later, I realize its nice to share memories like this one so the world can see just how much we were willing to do for our country!”

The Thing - Behind The Awkwardness

The Thing

“This pic was taken at mom’s nursing home a few years ago. Funny thing is, mom’s just sitting there with a big smile on her face as though she has no idea that “thing” is behind her…”

Jacob’s Ladder - Behind The Awkwardness

Jacob’s Ladder

“In 1989 my dad (on the far right) grandfather (holding the ladder) and family friend were building a deck off the back of our house.  After they got the first boards up my mother said “looks nice, but how are you going to get the ladder out?”  They forgot to move the ladder before securing the last board for the frame!!  They ended up cutting the ladder apart to get it out.  Also, notice the awkwardness of the jean shorts.”

The Rub - AFP Hall Of Fame

The Rub

“This is my husband when he was 6 or 7. His grandma sent him to school on PICTURE DAY in this shirt. You can’t see the bottom, but the shirt actually says “Rub it easy, make it hard.” No joke. His grandma obviously was clueless. Needless to say, he didn’t wear it to school again.”
