Campaign season is always a challenge for politicians’ families. But for Charlyn Daugherty, wife of Travis County Commissioner-hopeful Gerald Daugherty, the toughest part is when her husband regales her with the minutia of problems in his district.
On Monday, Gerald’s campaign released an ad that shows his devotion his constituents, and also what it’s like to be his spouse. Charlyn’s case for her husband is simple: a win for Gerald means getting him out of the house. “[He] doesn’t really have any hobbies,” she explains.
“This is my sister’s attempt at Christmas Card perfection. However, this time she failed. It almost looks as though she told them Santa actually isn’t real. My nieces were extremely uncooperative for my sister and to make matters worse, my niece on the right head-butted my baby niece (on the floor obviously).”

“My brothers and I recreated our most pitiful Halloween costumes from the early 80’s. I was about 4 years old, my brothers 6 and 11. My middle brother, the Lone Ranger, hated dressing up for Halloween, so that was as extensive of a costume as he would wear. Half way through trick or treating he ditched the hat and mask and no one knew what he was supposed to be. My oldest brother, on the other hand, was fascinated with being the Hunchback. Thirty years later we went back to our old house to stand on the stoop for the re-creation. Only a little sister could convince two grown men to do this. I think we nailed it.”
